De Hemel Is Gesmolten
Short documentary directed by Malika Helena de Rijke
We as humans are trapped in the systems we created. Does ultimate freedom exist? Can we ever be ultimately free, if we’ve never chosen to be born in the first place? Can we say that, for example, nature is free? De Hemel Is Gesmolten takes you on an essayistic journey in which these questions are posed in a poetic way, and invites the viewer to be part of this existential, philosophical process where image, music and voice-over form a trinity of equal importance.
With the music, I blended acoustic and electronic elements to create a transcendent, larger than life feeling, and give the known world seen in the film unfamiliar colours.
